MEL & ETHAN | THE ATRIUM, HAMILTON

The Atrium was the perfect venue for this couples very cool ‘modern industrial’ theme. Their colour palate worked perfectly with the vibe of the building, especially the brick work against the black steel. As a florist by trade, the florals had a huge part to play in this day and when you add spotlights to up the brick work, the whole look certainly comes alive!

Tell us about your venue and why did you choose it:

We chose the Atrium in town because it really went with our ‘modern industrial’ theme, originally we were just going to have just the reception there but ended up having our ceremony there too and it was just perfect! We absolutely love the brick work against the black steel.

Our wedding style was…

We were going for a modern industrial theme with a simple style, lots of lush florals and a little bit moody and romantic.

Where did you find your inspiration for your wedding day:

Because I’m a florist by trade a lot of my inspiration came from flowers, we get to play around with such beautiful colour tones so it made it easy! Plus Pinterest because once you have chosen a theme it is super easy to create a board with the style you love and find things that tie in.

Our love story began…

Almost 13 years ago, we both raced go-karts as a hobby and that’s where we met. Love as first sight :)

Where did you purchase your dress and accessories from:

I purchased my dress from Astral Bridal in Hamilton, it’s a Maggie Sorreto design which I had altered by Ang from Peace and Peony. My earrings were also from Astra Bridal and my hair accessories were purchased from Lovisa.

What were the highlights on the day:

We absolutely loved having our two little boys Karter and Alach be a big part of the day, I loved seeing them standing at the end of the isle all dressed up & so excited for Mummy & Daddy to get married. We both also really enjoyed the morning getting ready with our best friends, and seeing the florals on the day just blew us both away, they were so epic!

Tell us about the proposal…

I had been waiting a very long time and we had designed my engagement ring and Ethan was very slowly paying it off. This particular morning we decided to take our boys to Bridal Veil Falls for a bush walk then into Raglan to go the the skate park. As we set off walking through the bush I do remember thinking this could be the day, but I couldn’t see anything in his pockets so I moved on very quickly. We got to the top of the waterfall and I looked over and as I turned back to talk to the boys, Ethan was down on one knee holding up the ring! Of course I burst into tears! Our eldest son Karter thought it was funny and our youngest son Alach got upset as he wanted to marry mummy haha.

We saved on…

Not doing wedding favours and keeping the tables very simple. And utilising what the venue already had really helped.

We splurged on…

Alcohol! We didn’t want to run out! And having our amazing photographer & a videographer, we really wanted all the memories.

Do you have any tips for other brides & grooms?

Don’t stress, it will all come together on the day, and things that don’t, only you will know they didn’t go to plan, no one else will! Just enjoy it because it really does just go so fast!
